It doesn’t have to be chocolate chip cookies all the time you know? Theres room for SO many alternatives such as these cereal cookies. These crispy-on-the-outside and chewy-on-the inside treats are packed with unique extras that everybody loves… cereal!

I think everybody’s childhood memories included cereal. Sitting downstairs in your pyjamas with a bowl of cereal watching Cbeebies or CBBC on the weekends or in your school uniform before the school run. The multipack of 8 mini boxes of the classic cereals ranging from Coco Pops & Rice Crispies to Frosties and Rice Cripsy Multigrain Shapes, the revolutionary cereals which were so tasty and everybody raved about (but definitely weren’t healthy) such as Crave and Golden Nuggets and, don’t forget, adding extra sugar on top of your Frosties! Kids love cereal, especially chocolate cereal such as Coco Pops, because who doesn’t love the added value of chocolate milk at the bottom of the bowl?

Although cereal is a breakfast food for children, as we get older we seem to enjoy cereal at any time of the day. Hungry for a snack at 3pm? Cereal. Hungry after dinner and want dessert? Cereal. It never gets old which is why it can be eaten at any time of the day and taste just as delicious, hence why these cereal cookies are the perfect snack to make. They can be eaten at any time of the day AND include chocolate cereal to add extra yumminess – they are a winner with the kids.

  1. Preheat the oven to 180° C.

    (Gas mark 4 or 170° for those with an electric oven)
  2. Cream together the butter and sugar.

  3. Add the egg and the vanilla extract and combine.

  4. Add in the baking powder and pinch of salt. Gradually stir in the flour until everything is mixed together.

  5. In a small bag, crush your cereal until it is blitzed into small crumbs.

  6. Stir in the crushed cereal.

  7. Break the chocolate into a microwave safe bowl. Microwave the chocolate at a low heat in 10 second intervals until it is fully melted.

    Make sure you don't forget about the chocolate and keep stirring it after each 10 seconds - we don't want it to burn!
  8. Fold in the melted chocolate so that ribbons of chocolate run through your cookie dough.

  9. Place evenly-sized golf-sized balls of your mixture onto a lined baking tray.

    Make sure there are big gaps between each cookie - use more than one baking tray if needed!
  10. Pop in the oven for 10-12 minutes, allow to cool down and enjoy!


You can be totally versatile with these and add in any cereal you like! Another reason why they are so perfect for kids.
